I love the smell of fresh electronics in the morning

NIKON D70 - 1/8000 sec, f1.8 at 50mm

After an agonizing 2 week wait, the engine room of my new project has finally arrived from Denmark. Suddenly my life has meaning and purpose again now that I have something to turn my mind to. The smell and sweet touch of new electronics causes me to come over all a quiver. The first thing I did when I took it out of the box was give it a good long smell. Oh yeah. That's the stuff.

I caught Sarah reading a "womens interest" magazine this afternoon. That's what they call them in the book store at least.. I think it just shows the target intellect of Womens Day, that a 9 year old can read the articles and find them interesting.

The photo? It's an entire PC that's only 90mm by 90mm square (thats 3 and a half inches square for you medieval Americans). It's got everything in that space. Video, 2 USB ports, 2 serial ports, keyboard and mouse ports and 64MB RAM. We booted Linux up on it this afternoon. Gimme a few days and you'll be able to connect to a new web site running on it.

 • It's wonderfull. Seeing this magically small PC, I was back to the ideas of mini-mobile-robots again. Where is it available from and what is it called?

 • Armatil, It's a PC/104. There is many differnt modules available. I got mine at www.micro-technic.com, but there is also really good options for robotics at www.roboticsconnection.com/pc104.html
