There needs to be a public revolt over bacon in New Zealand

I've never really understood why there has never been rioting in the streets over the state of bacon in New Zealand. In fact, I think the same question could be made for meat in general in New Zealand. Tonight while I was cooking the bacon on the barbeque for our BLTs, I was reading the packet the bacon came in (I had nothing better to do). The second ingredient listed on the packet was water. What the hell does bacon need water for? I looked back at the soggy mess groaning on the hot plate and a little piece of me died inside.

Surely injecting meat with water must be somehow illegal. They are artificially increasing the weight of the meat. I wonder what would happen if someone was add water to beer or wine? why have we put up with them doing it for so long? I've never heard a whimper from the media about it.

Bloody hell I'd love to figure out how to whip the general unwashed populous into a frenzy over this one thing.

I don't now what the kids were doing to that statue. But they have suddenly become aware that statues generally have bare willys hanging out. Of course that begs the question why statues have to have willys. I wonder if it's just "that kind of person" that carves them all?

one of the main reasons we moved to Australia is that the bacon here is absolutley beautiful. No water comes out when you cook it and it is crispy as crispy. You can only buy thick slices not see through ones. For perfection you should try a bacon chop on the BBQ, like a t-bone steak but all bacon with wonderful crackling.

Australia bacon? If you want real bacon, there is only one country to go: Canada. I've never really known why... we have nice pigs I guess. No water, for sure. Our pies suck though. yeh well bacon in new zealand tastes like that because the kiwis know no better and think its the norm dont even start me on sausages and dont even start me on the cruel conditions the pigs are kept in to give you the PUMPED UP bacon rear your own 2 pigs home kill them and you will never wonder again and dont think for a minute i am being smart i will advise and support anyone who is prepared to give it a try idid and the bacon is just devine or try some from a free range pig farm if you dont feel confident to try your own www.freedomfarms.co.nz www.havoc.co.nz

A substantial amount of bacon sold in New Zealand comes from Canada. I have heard that in general standards of animal welfare are less than they are in NZ and also the pigs could have had growth hormones. There were 233 entries into the NZ bacon of the year competition and they were looked at raw and cooked. The number of great quality samples was fantastic, perhaps from small butchers but some were definitely from main stream companies. The medal winning bacons are worth finding as they were really good.
