It's hard not to bring work home with me when my job is a big part of my hobby too. The whole internet/technology thing is what gets me out of bed to go to work in the morning and keeps me amused when I'm at home with this site and our home intranet (that you never get to see).

Traffic and ranking and Search Engine Optimization are variously important and sometimes not with this site. Sometimes I can't help myself and I write a headline and link to it in ways that I just know will drive traffic from Search Engines. For example, my Jennifer Anistons arse tattoo post generates lots of traffic (see I just helped it some more right there by linking to it again). I snigger to myself when I see people landing on that page only to find Rik's mug!

Other times I wonder what the hell I'm going to do with the traffic anyway and then rewrite the title to something that will not generate any traffic.

My ranking on Technorati is 575,863. It hasn't bothered me before, but now it does. I'm getting my arse seriously kicked by my peers. It's just not right that someone that has provided (albeit minor) advice to the number one website on the planet has a web site ranked so low.

So over the next few months I'm going to be controversial, a sycophant, a trackbacker, a link beggerer and a commmentor. There is no point commenting on lots of photoblogs I've found. I need to comment on proper weblogs. I'm going to get me a better rank.

Thats a bloody good question. I guess one that isn't a photoblog or a journal, like this one, generally speaking, is. I guess one that actually logs the web and has an opinion about politics and tech and even social commentary. A blog that actually has readers that I couldn't name by name

Ironic that in order to be a 'proper blog' it must contain the same content as everyone elses.......how is conforming actually keeping a blog???

You make a good point. I see a lot of blogs regurgitating the same old stuff that everyone else is writing. There is very few around with original thinking. Although somewhere, someone must have started with a new thought.
