Thou shalt not covet

NIKON D70 - 1/60 sec, f5.6 at 50mm

Tim at work, (one of the ones that didn't ruin a good thing for the rest of us) said to me today "thou shalt not covet". I kind of agree, but bloody hell, NZ$700,000,000 is a huge amount of cash. Who would have though a NZ Internet company could ever sell for such an unbelievably huge amount of money. It's inconceivable. That's Silicon Valley ludicrousness!

Even if you got me really pissed and then asked me to extravagantly guess how much a great NZ based internet company could be worth, in my wildest dreams, I wouldn't have gone anywhere near $700 million in cash.

It guts me to think that what I do for a living could earn that much cash here in New Zealand. As my fearless leader tells me, aim higher, you'll do better. But bloody hell, that is aiming higher than the moon.

Just hearing about it gives me a sick feeling in my stomach. So I'm a media free zone for the next 2 weeks. I'm not going to watch TV, or use the internet for any news or entertainment, read any blogs, read the newspaper or listen to the radio on the way to work.

This is not entirely a bad decision anyway. The Acadamy Awards are on right now and I'll do almost anything to avoid that circus too (incuding not linking to them).

Although I wonder if Veronica Mars will be there? OMG!!!!
"Thou shalt not covet"

  • Man you guys are a fickle bunch. I don't think I've ever spent less time on taking a photo or potatoshopping it, and I get 3 people saying they like it. No I won't be joining Flickr, I have everything i want right here. And the only way Veronica Marrs would be better is if she was naked. In my home. And Gabba wasn't there. Or the kids.

  • Yes, and one of them is chipped. You gonna replace it?
    Dave - Tuesday, 7 March, 2006 10:27
  • No, but you should be able to get a replacement thru First Glass in Takapuna

  • I was surfing the net and I came across your post about <i>Veronica Mars</i>. In case you haven't heard, <a href="http://marsinvestigations.net">MarsInvestigations.net</a> started a <a href="http://marsinvestigations.net/campaigns/postcardintro.php">$4,000 Shower, Season 3</a> postcard campaign. Considering the low ratings for the past few episodes, this show needs all the support it can get. If you're one of those fans who think VM's renewal is guaranteed, then you should read our <a href=http://marsinvestigations.net/campaigns/season_three_no_guarantee.php>"Season Three - No Guarantee"</a> page.
