When I was about 15, maybe 16, my mother and her partner owned a Fish and Chip shop. That room there on the right of the building was my bedroom. Over the back fence there was a block of flats. In the end flat, lived a woman, possibly in her mid or late 20s. I saw her a few times over the fence. One summer she played the album Human Racing many, many times. Tairawhiti Gisborne summers were hot, even back then, all her windows open and Nik Kershaw singing his songs. I wasn't a fan, but i heard that album so many times.
I wasn't a fan, preferring "cooler" music than Nik Kershaw, being a 15 year old boy that knows everything and nothing.
But here I am, 2026, Friday night, a couple of glasses of wine in my man cave, playing Nik Kershaw, Howard Jones, Duran Duran and having a little chair dance.

This cat joins me on the back of the couch in my man cave every night. He sleeps there but on Fridays nights, he gets to listen to the best of the mid 80s music that was uncool back then but I bloody love now. I wonder what he things of 1980s New Wave / Synth Pop
