When it starts to get cold, I sometimes think of my grandparents on my fathers side.
They lived in a state house in Paihiatua. Granddad would light the open fire in the living room. Eventually it'd easily be 30 degrees in there with the door shut, the rest of the house maybe 12 degrees on a good day.
If us little kids wanted to leave the sweltering heat, we'd need to provide a damn good reason why we were going to open the living room door.
