Maybe I wasn't breast fed for long enough

As much as I hate marketers, I have to admire them every now and then. You have to be impressed with the chutzpa of a marketer that pushes a product where there clearly is not a market. For example, how about that dishwasher cleaner that is in the supermarkets now? It's a bottle of detergent that you put in the dishwasher to clean it's insides. The fact the dirty dishes go in there and come out clean means the inside of the dishwasher is going to be just as clean as the now clean dishes. How bad for the environment is running an empty dishwasher with extra strong suds to clean something that is already clean?

Bottled water seems to be the cause celebre right now. I've often wondered why the hell someone would pay 10,000 times the price of tap water to drink it from a (probably more expensive than the water it contains) plastic bottle. I'm even less enamored with the whole sucking it from a teat thing that is on all the bottles. The fact that the bottle is a horrendous waste of the worlds resources is by the by. But it's a bloody good point nevertheless.

Tonight on TV3 News there was a (particularly hot I might add) psychologist that reckoned people sucking on bottled water liked it because it harked back to when they were suckled by their mothers (or suckled on their mothers. I don't write that sentence often enough to know which way round it goes).

So perhaps that's why I don't get the whole bottled water phenomenon. Perhaps I just wasn't breast fed long enough. No doubt my Ma will correct that statement given time.

Although perhaps there's an opportunity to invent a whole new market. When no one buys the dishwasher cleaner, perhaps they could start making plastic breasts instead for people to suckle on. It'd be better for the environment. I know I'd buy one.

Please note the excellent use of "The Method" in tonights post.

  • I did note the exemplary use of 'The method'. Executed with such seemless supinity. And this comment isnt just to get my link in there. This was from the heart man, as always.

  • I know it's from the heart because you left off the http:// which means there is no link there for you. Ha Ha. You sacrificed a comment. It's an impotent link. A flacid link. It's like a doughnut but with no cream and golbule of raspberry jam. A tyre with no air if you like.

  • yes , of course you were breast fed long enough. When you were 10 months old I gave you a chocolate wheaten biscuit then a drink. You had a couple of teeth and bit me. you then went straight to drinking out of a cup. you never had a bottle so thats probably where your funny ideas are coming from

  • I'm glad you brought that up. Being the easily annoyed person that I am I find it truly disturbing to see (and even worse...to hear) grown men sucking on water bottles. That's just one more thing I'll have to add to my checklist for my ideal man...right under "must not eat with mouth open".
