That is the last electric drill I will ever buy

Some time back I was standing in a hardware store trying to decide on which drill I should purchase. I needed a new drill because I'd already visited 2 other hardware stores trying to find a drill bit that would fit my existing drill and failing and then deciding it would be cheaper and faster to just buy the drill bit that doesn't fit and buy another drill that will fit. if you follow.

I was already slightly grumpy that any trip to the hardware store always, always requires driving to another hardware store to buy all the parts needed for the currant project. Additionally was also limited to which brand of power tool is on my list of acceptable brands (a subject for a following post) and trying to remember which is the consumer skin and which is the pro skin. Power tools have skins these days. And I like my power tools powered by the mighty Waikato River although battery devices are pretty damn cool these days too.

So while pondering all these things it then occurred to me that, at my age, this may well be the last ever electric drill I ever purchase. If, as is my way, I make a good purchase decision this drill will last me the rest of my life. This is the last electric drill I will ever own. It will out live me in all likelihood.

Who among us hasn't stood in the power tool aisle of Placemakers and had a small mental meltdown about life and the universe and everything else.

I guess there will be increasingly more things I buy that will be the last one I ever have to decide about.

  • Dammit - Existential crisis was the words I was trying to find and just plain couldn't get them to mind last night while writing this post.

  • I live in a unit block and bought a rechargeable drill about 10 years ago, and can't remember why and haven't needed it again. Before that I would just borrow my dads. I think life is going to feel like it is winding down when I buy what I expect might be my last car.

  • Ha, yes. When I come to buy my last car, I'd better make it a good one, that's for certain
