I think it was 1991 or thereabouts, while working at a govt department, I once worked a 28 hour shift, for reasons.
I came home and decided to buy my first ever full case of wine with the extra penal rates I was going to be paid - 1987 Babich Irongate Cab Merlot. In those days that required a phone call to the vineyard.
30+ years later, I think it's still my most favourite NZ Cab Merlot and I still have at least 2 dozen of various vintages in the cellar ready for me.
