I win again.
Found an input on this old amplifier that works - Phono 2.
in this case a 1st gen iPod is pretending to be a turn table.
The volume pot is clearly not good, but some use of it is clearing that up some. I think it might be beyond me to yank it apart to spray some contact cleaner in there.
Jeebs the heat sinks get hot though. This thing must be eating electricity like it was the 70s again

I found his amp in the attic. It's been sitting up there for 20 years. I have buggered about with it most of today and got it going again. It'll provide music in my garage, so now lives a second life.
On the left side of this image, you can see a cigarette burn from him putting down his smoke and forgetting about it, possibly while loading a record on the turn table.
A cigarette that 30 or 40 years ago probably contributed to his end
