This is where we went, what we listened to, tweeted, coded, blogged and spent on this day
At some point very early in my life I understood a few meant 2 and that worked completely fine, nothing ever called my definition into doubt.
Then, well into my 50s, I found out that a few actually means 3 or 3 - 6 which was quite a shock for me that I had such a basic word so wrong.
Still now I have to do the mental conversion that when I say things like "that'll be a few hours" as an estimate that I might have just told someone it could be 6 when in my head I as thinking 2.
Words...
@spudooli@mastodon.nzThis martini is so good that first I had to check the Wikipedia page for martini's to see if its portrait wasn't already there as the definition of the cocktail. But then was slightly worried that the British Museum was about to come down our driveway to claim it as the best of the best of its genre. I am firmly pressing down on the glass just in case.
@spudooli@mastodon.nz I have this weird relationship with some music that I haven't played for a very long time. Back when I mostly listened to music on the tape deck in my car or on my Sanyo ghetto blaster in Khandallah Park when I was trying to escape everything.
Now I listen to a Nik Kershaw or The Cars or Thompson Twins or Frankie Goes album, for example, and wonder what the hell am I hearing, only to realise that all those years ago I only ever listened to only one side of the cassette ever because that was the side that had the one track I obsessed over. Now I have the FLACs and get to experience the other side.
@spudooli@mastodon.nzWhat's that called? New Old Stock!
@spudooli@mastodon.nzOur youngest daughter lives at home with us, we love having her here.
Just now I was listening to The Waterboys song Fisherman's Blues that has the lyric "I wish I was the brakeman".
So I shout at her, "Alice, what is a brakeman" and about 7 seconds later I get a nice concise answer and with no ads. Not only do I get answers on demand, she pays us board.
Suck a bag of dicks US tech bros. My speech to speech intelligence has built in ad filtering and love that you will never understand
